N2  - While the Sabarimala controversy has garnered considerable scholarly attention, few have theorised the counter-mobilisations against the conservative "Save Sabarimala" campaign, which highlighted the interlinkages of the caste-gender axis. Oversimplified accounts have tended to depict the entire controversy as either a liberal intrusion into religious traditions or merely a Savarna feminist attempt to reform the Brahminical Hindu religion. What they overlooked was that these counter-mobilisations represented a widespread expression of yearnings for social justice and outrage against Brahminism. By critically contextualising the non-Brahminical contentions at Sabarimala, this paper also explores their various tendencies
