The COVID-19 pandemic caused large-scale logistical disruptions globally that severed supply chains and became manifested in extreme shortages of goods and services as well as rising inflation pressures. In India, the price collection mechanism became non-functional due to the imposition of the nationwide lockdown. The imputed value of inflation put out by the National Statistical Office (NSO) suggested a surge in consumer price index (CPI) inflation to 6.2% in June 2020.
